Many good things
have happened to me since completing my course as a USGTF
associate member. My middle school coaching job led to the
varsity high school head coach position at Chatham High School
in Massachusetts.
I have been working at both private and public golf courses in
both inside and outside operations. I volunteered to work for
the Massachusetts Golf Association in the First Tee program.
This developed into an instructor’s position and, by attrition,
the head professional’s position at our local golf course.
I also have been volunteering at three PGA tour events, the CA
Championship at Doral, the Honda Classic, and the Deutsche Bank
Championship. I’ve worked my way up to tee/announcer and
starter.
The best advice I came away with during my week with the USGTF
is not only to teach other people, but also to teach yourself to
adjust to certain situations. This is most important, after
making a mistake and hitting a poor shot.
In closing, I want to thank Bob Wyatt for, 1) a good base to
start out on my new career, and 2), helping improve my own game.
It was a great experience and well worth it. The perks that come
with being a USGTF member and its rewards make for a great
profession.
